Location Guide For Eloping in The Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming | Sheridan, WY Photographer
Let me convince you of this Hidden Gem.
Let’s be so honest, EVERYONE travels to Jackson Hole and the Tetons for their elopement, but there’s a hidden mountain gem that has been very under appreciated and it’s located in Wyoming. If you’re looking for quiet mountain scapes, let me turn you on to the Big Horn Mountains. The Big Horns have many small towns that are at the base, each offering a unique elopement experience. You can stay in places like Buffalo, WY, Dayton, WY, Sheridan, WY, Greybull, WY or Ten Sleep, WY. Let’s just say if you’re dreaming about a quiet, adventurous wedding that is surrounded by towering peaks, alpine forests, and endless Wyoming skies, eloping in the Bighorn Mountains might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Why Elope in the Big Horn Mountains?
The Bighorns stretch for over 100 miles across northern Wyoming and southern Montana, forming a dramatic landscape filled with waterfalls, lakes, and panoramic viewpoints.
For couples who want an adventurous wedding day, the Big Horns offer alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, mountain views without national park crowds. I am obsessed with all these mountains have to offer. Eloping has become such a hit among couples looking to tie the knot that most national park destinations have become overrun with elopements and weddings. The Big Horns offer quiet forest trails and scenic overlooks and NO CROWDS. Not only that it’s easy access to bigger towns like Buffalo and Sheridan. It also houses many smaller towns if you want to keep your day especially secluded.
You can experience a wild, remote-feeling ceremony while still being only an hour from town.

01. Pine Island and Arrowhead Lodge
If you want to skip the hikes, I’d check out Pine Island. It has fire pits and an open cabin concept if you decide to invite a few guests. The most beautiful meadow is located right behind the cabin and you often seen moose hanging out. You can reserve the space ahead of time for a very small fee. If you bring guests you have the option to camp at Pine Island. If camping isn’t your guest’s thing… It is located right next to Arrowhead Lodge. Arrowhead Lodge gives a rustic charm with the choice of cabins or hotel rooms. It also has a restaurant with delicious food. It’s really the best of both worlds. You can get adventure within your comfort zone.
02. The Lark and Spur Ranch
If you’re looking for an elopement venue, check out The Lark and Spur Ranch. It’s located just a few minutes outside of Sheridan and has access to a very quaint and cozy cabin. It’s seriously one of the coziest cabins in Sheridan. Here’s the Airbnb listing to check it out. It’s the best option for a couple that doesn’t necessarily want to escape to the deep of the mountains, but still wants to enjoy the views they offer. You don’t have to give up your cell service or town luxuries. They have also partnered with a couple vendors to get you some perks for eloping at their ranch.
Porcupine Falls
03. One of the many waterfalls the Big Horns offer
For those of you that want to add a bit of adventure to your elopement experience, I highly recommend one of the many waterfall hikes that the Big Horns offer. Waterfall hikes are so unique and can be such a fun way to say your “I do’s.” You can get some epic wedding photos too.
After you say your vows in a secluded spot, book a room at one of the many lodges that the Big Horns have to offer. My personal favorite is Bear Lodge— they have the best pie. I mean just imagine finishing your wedding day with a slice of pie instead of cake. I might be biased to pie, can you tell?
There’s quite a few waterfalls within close proximity to Bear Lodge as well. You can check out Porcupine falls which is a quick hike down to a small lake. At the bottom you will see a beautiful waterfall where you can say your vows. Paradise falls is also a wonderful contender for a beautiful waterfall elopement. It’s a quick hike down to the pools of water. I recommend sunrise for this spot as it tends to get a little busy with people swimming in this one.
